  • Could Magpies winger play a role in finding his replacement?
  • Liverpool star targeted by Eddie Howe’s side

It seems Anthony Gordon may be on his way out this summer, as he looks for a new adventure away from Newcastle United. The deal will be complicated for even the biggest teams in Europe to complete, as seen last summer when the Magpies drove a hard bargain for Alexander Isak.

Eddie Howe has learned the hard way that big players leaving require surefire replacements. Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa were recruited with the money pocketed for Isak, but have underwhelmed.

As Gordon appears to be on his way out, he could hand Newcastle one last favour and sweet-talk one of his good footballing pals, convincing them to make the move to St James’ Park.

Curis Jones has fallen somewhat out of favour at Liverpool. It is understood he could be available this summer for around £50 million, though with interest from Inter Milan, the fee could rise. Graeme Bailey has claimed that the Magpies are also in the race.

Curtis Jones could be available for summer transfer

The Magpies have experienced first-hand the impact of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules in the past, and it looks like they could once again influence Liverpool’s situation this time around.

Jones is a product of Liverpool’s academy system and has impressed since breaking into the first team. He has made over 200 senior appearances for his boyhood club, winning several major trophies.

It is believed the Scouser is seeking more regular game time, and with just one year remaining on his contract this summer, it could tempt several European clubs to consider a move.

Jones has previously spoken highly of Gordon, referring to him as “my brother”. That could be a close relationship the player turns to if he wants to find out more about life on Tyneside.

In an interview with Sky Sports, when asked about the best English talent he has played alongside, he said: “Anthony Gordon, I would say he is underrated as well. I know he does an amazing job and everything, but he’s so underrated. He’s overall just an amazing lad and a player.”

Newcastle United would benefit from Curtis Jones profile

Newcastle’s midfield is currently built around strong, combative players who are willing to win the ball at all costs. Jones offers a different profile.

His ability on the ball is outstanding — he can find space in tight areas and carry the ball from deep into attacking positions with ease.

With Kieran Trippier leaving, a gap could open at right-back, and Jones is no stranger to the role; in fact, his performance against Manchester United at the weekend from the right side of defence was one of the standout displays for the away side.

There are not many players with the skill set the 25-year-old possesses, making him a strong market opportunity for Eddie Howe this summer.
