- Newcastle showing interest in Arsenal defender
- Gunners player lacking game time
- Magpies set to sell superstars
Newcastle United defender Tino Livramento has been linked with a move away from St James’ Park this summer, with some of the Premier League elite showing concrete interest. Eddie Howe and his side are searching for possible replacements, and Arsenal’s Ben White could be the man.
Sports Boom reports that the English defender is becoming ‘disgruntled’ with Jurrien Timber now taking his place as the Gunners’ starting right back.
Fellow Magpie fullback Kieran Trippier may also be on his way out of Tyneside this summer as his contract expires with the club.
Looking for more first-team opportunities, White may sound out a move to Howe’s team.
White facing reduced Arsenal role
White joined Arteta’s side ahead of the 2021/22 season, after a debut Premier League campaign with Brighton.
In the following seasons, the 28-year-old quickly became a main starter under the Spanish manager, and although Arsenal signed Takehiro Tomiyasu, the English defender remained the first choice.
He was part of three title-chasing seasons and has the chance to become a Premier League champion this season at the Emirates.
White has had some injuries in the past two seasons, outside of a knee surgery in November 2024; others haven’t kept him out for long, though his minutes have declined significantly.
This is mainly down to Jurrien Timber, who moved to London from Ajax in 2023, though he missed his debut season with an ACL injury.
In the last two seasons, he’s made 25 league appearances, with just eight so far this campaign.
While not an identical profile to Livramento or Trippier, he can still progress the ball forward and look to play on the front foot.
He offers much more defensive security and can also play at centre back if required.
With both right-backs potentially out the door, White can play a similar role that Trippier did when he arrived at St James’ Park, by bringing experience through playing for a team competing for major honours.
Potential Newcastle fire sale
With the Magpies potentially missing out on European football ahead of the 2025/26 season, several high-profile players have been linked away.
Though some sections in the fanbase are happy for some to leave, as they feel they haven’t done enough to support Howe this season.
Livramento has seen links away as well as Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes. Fans are keen to see their captain stay, as well as Lewis Hall, who has had a stellar season at left back.
Moans have grown over Tonali recently, especially with his agent’s comments in the past few weeks.
It seems the Alexander Isak sale last summer was the start of Newcastle 2.0, as they look like they are ready to restart their project under the Saudi PIF, and just like Trippier, White could be the beginning of it.
