Newcastle United will be looking to move in the right direction this summer, having taken a step or two backwards in the previous campaign. That is being made tougher by the fact that many of their key players seem keen on a move away from St James’ Park.
Of course, there has been a lot of talk around Sandro Tonali and understandably so. Tottenham Hotspur are already believed to have made an offer in the region of £80 million which was turned down.
Newcastle United are believed to be holding out for around £100 million. Incidentally, Tonali is not the only high-profile midfielder who could head for the exit door. And Tottenham are not the only North London club with their eyes set on the Magpies’ players.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal made a formal approach in the last 24 hours for Bruno Guimaraes. The plan to try open talks for £55 million was immediately rejected by Newcastle. The Magpies want to keep the Brazilian international and told the Premier League champions they won’t part ways for that fee.
Arsenal need to up their game if they want to sign Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United
Of course, there is always a right transfer price for every player. And if Arsenal do end up making a bid in the region, it could unlock a deal.
What is that fee when it comes to Guimaraes? I do not know. But it is most definitely not going to be £55 million in a transfer market when Elliot Anderson is going to join Manchester City for twice of that figure.
Now, that is no slight at Anderon. He has proven he is a phenomenal midfielder. Newcastle United clearly did not get the best out of the academy graduate.
That being said, Anderson is not twice the player that Guimaraes is, that is for certain. Ideally, Newcastle United will keep him. But if the Brazilian does end up pushing for an exit, they need to get the best fee possible.
Chelsea could be another possible destination for Guimaraes
If it becomes clear that Guimaraes wants to leave this summer, the best thing for Newcastle United would be as many top clubs as possible getting into the race to sign him. That would drive up the transfer fee.
Arsenal might not be the only club looking to sign Guimaraes this summer. Chelsea were loosely linked with him earlier in the window as well.
Those links could emerge once again, if Enzo Fernandez does end up completing a move to Real Madrid at some point this summer. Guimaraes is the type of player he can take his place in that Chelsea midfield.
The Blues are believed to be looking for Premier League-proven players this summer. Guimaraes would fall under that category for sure.
And if they do end up receiving a transfer fee in the region of £120 million for Fernandez, they would have the finances to sign Guimaraes.
