Newcastle United advancing in talks to sign elite £70m striker for free

Newcastle United will need to sign a striker this summer. Let’s not forget that the club said goodbye to Alexander Isak less than a year ago. They brought in Nick Woltemade to replace him.

Unfortunately, Woltemade has not been able to fill those shoes. Was it a look of ability? Not being able to use him properly? Or both?

Whichever may be the case, it is safe to say that the German striker’s output from last season will not blow anybody away. So much so that he was not even playing up top in several games in the second half of the campaign. And now, Newcastle United are trying to sign another elite centre-forward.

Of course, with the club’s financial constraints, signing elite players is not simple. But what about those who are set to be available as free agents?

Newcastle United intensify contacts with striker’s entourage

Dusan Vlahovic looks increasingly likely to leave Juventus as a free agent this summer. And if or when that does happen, Newcastle United have emerged as one of the favourites to sign him.

According to TuttoJuve, Newcastle United intensified contact with Vlahovic’s entourage. Initial discussions have been encouraging, so much so that the Serbian striker himself is reportedly carefully considering a move to England.

Vlahovic is merely days away from his contract with Juventus expiring. And so far, an agreement on an extension does not seem to be close.

Naturally, his entourage is doing their due diligence in ensuring that he has a place to land immediately. If reporting is accurate then Newcastle United are in the mix to sign him alongside teams like Chelsea.

Why it is time for Vlahovic to leave Juventus

It would be an understatement to say that Vlahovic has the potential to be an elite signing for Newcastle United. There is a reason that Juventus shelled out north of £70 million to sign him all those years back.

Admittedly, Vlahovic’s time in Turin did not go according to plan. After his incredible output at Fiorentina, he was never able to replicate it in a Juventus jersey.

Vlahovic scored his fair share of goals but he never developed into the world-class striker that he had looked like, well on the way to becoming in Florence.

Now, all these years down the line, a move away from Turin, and Italy, might be the step for Vlahovic to rebuild what has become a stagnant career. Could we see him swap the black-and-white jersey of Juventus for the one of Newcastle United?
