Talk on Twitter as Newcastle have bid rejected for Sanderson who rejected contract

Newcastle United have Jamaal Lascelles, Fabian Schar, Federico Fernandez and Ciaran Clark at their disposal, but Steve Bruce has been trying to bring in another centre-back this summer.

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Dion Sanderson is on the Magpies’ radar, but The Athletic say an opening bid was rejected for the 21-year-old. Newcastle offered £1m which Wolves had no intention of accepting, so they’ll have to improve the bid to land his signature.

Wolves are still hoping to tie Sanderson down to a new deal and plan to loan him out next season, but Newcastle may still be in the running as rejected an extension at Molineux. There’s some interest among supporters on social media, but Sanderson isn’t deemed a big deal, likely because he’s barely played at the top level.

The defender has made 46 appearances for Wolves U18s, 27 appearances for Wolves U23s and one appearance for the first-team. Sanderson has been loaned out to Cardiff City (10 appearances) and Sunderland (27 appearances) where he’s impressed at both and boosted his reputation.

Whether he’s good enough to make an impact at Newcastle is another story, however.
