Dummett wanted by three Premier League clubs

Newcastle United face an unlikely transfer battle on their hands as three Premier League clubs have been credited with an interest in Welsh defender Paul Dummett.

Crystal Palace, Stoke City and West Brom will all reportedly go head-to-head for Dummett’s signature, though Newcastle are still in full control as the academy graduate has recently penned a new long-term deal.

The 24-year-old has been a key figure in the Magpies’ defensive line-ups in the last two seasons – much to the disapproval of some fans who would prefer to see Massadio Haidara or Kevin Mbabu, a natural right-sided centre-half, given the nod.

Dummett has improved dramatically over the past twelve months, even with a persistent hamstring injury; from a shaky defender looking to pump the ball long at the first instance, to a consistent defender, executing the basics well and confident at playing out from the back.

The Welshman is now averaging more tackles, interceptions & blocks per game, as well as a greater pass completion, while conceding less fouls.

The Chronicle believe Dummett would be happy to remain at St James’ Park, though the club may be tempted to cash-in ‘for the right offer’ – which is more likely to materialise if he performs well at the European Championships.
