Newcastle United officially announce another player’s exit

One thing is for sure, Newcastle United are staying busy this summer transfer window. Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali have already completed big moves away. It looks like Bruno Guimaraes could follow in their path. The Brazilian is believed to have told the club that he wants to join Arsenal. Let’s see if that materialises or not.

On the other hand, there has been movement in terms of additions as well. Bazoumana Toure has arrived from Hoffenheim, in what was a club-record deal for the Bundesliga side.

The Magpies are also believed to be on the verge of announcing the signing of Sean Steur. He has already arrived in Newcastle to undergo a medical and complete his move from Ajax.

That is not all though. Now, another exit has been announced as well. Newcastle United have made it official that Harrison Ashby has joined League One side Luton Town on a season-long loan.

Ashby does not seem to have a future at Newcastle United

Ashby came through the youth ranks at West Ham United and made a few senior appearances for the Hammers, before Newcastle United signed him in 2023.

It was believed to be a deal in the region of £3 million. So, expectations could not have been sky-high. But even then, it is a bit disappointing that Ashby has never made a single appearance for Newcastle United.

After a couple of Championship loan spells at Swansea City and QPR, he has now dropped down a level as well. Last season, he went to Bradford City. Now, he will turn out for Luton Town.

We can only wish him the best. That being said, it is hard to imagine that someone dropping down to play at the League One level at 24 years of age is going to have a future in the senior team at St James’ Park.

What does the future hold for Ashby?

At this point, the hope might be that Ashby manages to impress at one of these clubs and ends up earning himself a permanent move away as a result of it.

Ashby is a right-back. Newcastle United can do with some depth in that position right now. But unfortunately, his development has not gone according to expectations. Otherwise, he would have been perfect for a cover role for the Magpies.

It remains to be seen how Ashby’s time on loan at Luton Town goes. The club finished 7th in the League One table last season. So, one would imagine that they will be pushing for promotion this time around.

Can Ashby help them win that promotion? If so, there is a good possibility that the club would look into signing him on a permanent basis.
