Papiss Cisse is due to undergo a scan to determine the extent of the groin injury he suffered in Newcastle’s 1-1 draw against Aston Villa on Saturday.
The Senegalese number 9 limped off the pitch half an hour into United’s important clash, and he made way for summer signing Aleksandar Mitrovic.
Cisse looks set to miss out on the Boxing Day fixture with Everton, and he could possibly be ruled out until the start of January.

According to the Chronicle, Newcastle fans will learn the extent of their number nine’s injury in the coming days.
A run in the team for Mitrovic could be on the horizon, and the injury to Cisse will pose a dilemma for head coach Steve McClaren.
The former England boss will have to choose between Siem de Jong, Ayoze Perez and Aleksandar Mitrovic for United’s next game against Everton.
