What is the problem for Newcastle United after a poor start under Matthias Jaissle?

Newcastle January transfer window

Newcastle are in the bottom half of the table, with 11 points from nine games.

The recent defeat against Everton leaves Newcastle United 13th in the Premier League table and extends their difficult run to four defeats in their last five matches across all competitions.

The Magpies have also struggled at home, winning just one of their five Premier League matches at St James’ Park this season. They are also yet to keep a clean sheet on home soil in the league.

An interesting news has come out. According to The Telegraph, there is a feeling within the dressing room that recruitment is the biggest reason behind the club’s early-season struggles.

Newcastle United players believe they are paying the price for the club’s recruitment decisions this summer, with growing concerns over Matthias Jaissle’s approach following a difficult start to the season.

Jaissle has also come under scrutiny for his early season tactics. Fans have also voiced their concern over his methods boos came from Newcastle supporters.

The 38-year-old is yet to find a way to get consistent results from his squad, with questions also being raised about whether changes could benefit the team.

Newcastle players concerned about summer recruitment

Despite the growing frustration, there is no desire within the Newcastle dressing room for a change of head coach. The players reportedly accept responsibility for their performances but feel the club’s recruitment has left them in a difficult position.

Newcastle missed out on several targets during the summer and instead gambled on a number of players with little Premier League experience.

Having lost three of the club’s best players in Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon, Newcastle spent around £262.9m on eight new signings during the summer transfer window, as per the Telegraph.

The Magpies have struggled for consistent results this season, with their back to back losses to Everton putting even more pressure on Matthias Jaissle.

Jaissle facing growing pressure at Newcastle

While there is no immediate push from within the dressing room to replace Jaissle, another poor result could force the Newcastle hierarchy to reconsider their position.

The German manager needs to find solutions quickly, with both performances and results falling short of the expectations he was brought in for.
