Newcastle United would love to tie Tino Livramento down to a new contract as they look to secure the future of one of their most highly rated defenders.
According to Pete O’Rourke, speaking to Football Insider, Newcastle are hoping to agree an extension with the England international before the end of the season.
Livramento’s current deal runs until the summer of 2028, but the Magpies are keen to sort out his future despite his recent injury problems.
Newcastle wants to secure Livramento’s future
The 23-year-old remains highly regarded at St James’ Park and has also earned recognition with the England senior team as well. He was named in Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad that went on to finish third but ultimately missed out due to an injury.
If anything has kept him from being at his best, it will be the injuries. His injury record is one of the biggest talking points at Newcastle United recently. Tino Livramento was only fit enough to start 14 Premier League games last season and has managed just 33 league minutes so far in the 2026-27 campaign. Yet his talents have convinced the club that they are keen to tie the defender to a new deal.
Newcastle United are hoping Tino Livramento could return for the Premier League clash with Arsenal on Saturday, 21 November. The defender is currently recovering from a knee injury sustained in training.
Tino Livramento injury record remains a concern
It followed a difficult summer in which a calf injury required surgery, ruling him out of England’s World Cup campaign and Newcastle’s pre-season preparations.
He returned to make three substitute appearances before suffering his latest setback.
Livramento has experienced several significant injuries during his young career, including a previous ACL injury that kept him out for around a year. Newcastle are understandably reluctant to risk another setback by bringing him back too quickly.
The 23-year-old missed the final five games of last season with a hamstring problem before returning this season to make three appearances from the bench. However, his latest setback has kept him out of action for several weeks, and it is now more than six months since he last started a game for the Magpies.
Newcastle will hope to have Livramento back regularly available before moving forward with contract discussions, with the defender’s fitness likely to remain an important consideration. But as things stand, Newcastle are hoping they can have the defender for a long time at St James’ Park.
