Newcastle United could reportedly revive their interest in Brighton midfielder Yasin Ayari if uncertainty over his future at the Amex Stadium continues.
The Magpies considered a move for the Sweden international during the summer before ultimately strengthening their midfield with other targets.
Ayari has remained on Newcastle’s radar, however, and Football Insider reports that the club could return for the 22-year-old if Brighton are unable to secure his long-term future.
His current contract runs towards its conclusion in 2027, although Brighton retain an option to extend the agreement by a further year.
Newcastle retain Yasin Ayari interest
Ayari is not a new name on Newcastle’s recruitment list.
Read Newcastle highlighted the midfielder as a potential target earlier this summer when his Brighton contract situation first attracted interest.
Newcastle eventually reshaped their midfield following the departures of Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali, with Nico Gonzalez arriving from Manchester City in August.
The club agreed a £52million package for Gonzalez while also investing in younger options Sean Steur and Aladji Bamba.
That means there is no indication a move for Ayari is imminent.
Brighton are also understood to want the midfielder to stay and have been working to resolve his longer-term future.
However, Newcastle’s continued interest is notable given Ayari’s age, Premier League experience and ability to operate across several midfield roles.
Any January move appears likely to depend heavily on the outcome of his contract discussions on the south coast.
For now, Newcastle are monitoring rather than negotiating, but Ayari is a name worth keeping on the recruitment radar as planning for future windows continues.
