Scott McTominay’s name has resurfaced in Premier League transfer speculation, with Newcastle United reportedly among three English clubs interested in the Napoli midfielder.
The Scotland international has enjoyed a successful spell in Italy since leaving Manchester United in 2024, helping Napoli win the Serie A title in his first season.
Now, according to transfer journalist Ekrem Konur, Newcastle, Aston Villa and McTominay’s former club Manchester United are all being linked with a possible move for the 29-year-old.
McTominay linked with Premier League return
Konur suggests that a potential transfer is being discussed, although his report does not establish whether Newcastle have made direct contact with Napoli or the player’s representatives.
McTominay’s transformation since leaving Old Trafford has been considerable. Having spent much of his Manchester United career competing for a regular midfield place, he became an influential figure in Napoli’s title-winning side. He was named Serie A’s Most Valuable Player for the 2024/25 season.
His combination of physical presence, goalscoring ability and experience would make him an interesting option for Newcastle. However, there is currently little evidence of how seriously the club are considering a move.
McTominay remains under contract with Napoli until June 2028, leaving the Italian champions in a relatively strong position should any interested club attempt to negotiate a transfer.
For now, Newcastle’s involvement is limited to reported interest. Neither a formal approach nor an offer has been confirmed, and there is no indication that Napoli have decided to sell.
