Newcastle linked with Tyler Morton as Liverpool consider return

Newcastle United are reportedly monitoring Tyler Morton, with Liverpool considering a possible return for the midfielder they sold to Lyon.

According to TEAMtalk’s report published on 24 September, Newcastle are among seven Premier League clubs watching the 23-year-old’s progress in France.

Sunderland and Everton are also named, alongside Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace and Brighton.

The report says Liverpool have continued to follow Morton since his departure, with manager Andoni Iraola an admirer. However, it remains uncertain whether that interest will develop into a formal move.

Newcastle’s involvement is described as monitoring the midfielder. The report does not establish that the Magpies have submitted an offer or opened negotiations with Lyon.

Tyler Morton link adds to Newcastle midfield options

Morton joined Lyon in August 2025, with the French club confirming a contract running until June 2030.

That agreement gives Lyon a strong contractual position should Premier League interest become more concrete. His growing importance to Paulo Fonseca’s side would also complicate any attempt to bring him back to England.

For Newcastle, the link comes while Matthias Jaissle assesses a midfield containing several recent arrivals and developing players.

Joelinton and Nico González have returned to training, creating fresh questions about Newcastle’s midfield balance before the Coventry trip.

Their reintegration will help shape the immediate selection picture. Any future move for Morton would require Newcastle to identify a clear role alongside their existing options.

For now, he is a reported scouting interest, with several clubs following the same player.
