Thomas Tuchel has explained why Lewis Hall was not used during England’s 3-2 Nations League defeat to Spain after the Newcastle United defender suffered an injury scare earlier in the week.
Hall returned to training before Saturday’s game at Wembley after missing Wednesday’s session with a knock.
However, the 22-year-old remained unused against Spain as England began their Nations League campaign with defeat.
According to Yahoo Sports, Tuchel confirmed after the game that England opted not to risk Hall following the fitness concern.
The decision will be welcomed by Newcastle given Matthias Jaissle is already dealing with several defensive injuries.
Lewis Hall fitness remains important for Newcastle
Hall’s problem had initially raised concerns after he became the only member of England’s available squad to miss Wednesday’s training session.
He subsequently returned to the group on Thursday, with Read Newcastle updating Hall’s injury situation before the Spain fixture.
Fellow Newcastle full-back Tino Livramento had already withdrawn from England duty because of injury, increasing the importance of Hall returning to Tyneside fully fit.
The latest situation across Jaissle’s squad can be followed in Read Newcastle’s Newcastle United injury tracker.
Hall remains with England for the remainder of the international window, with Czechia next on Tuesday.
That fixture should provide another indication of his recovery after England decided caution was the best approach against Spain.
