At this moment, it feels like pretty much everybody wants Newcastle United’s players. Of course, the two big exits have been Anthony Gordon joining Barcelona and Sandro Tonali heading for Tottenham Hotspur. But now, there is speculation around Bruno Guimaraes as well.
On the other hand, there are quite a few others who are being linked with moves away as well. And Everton are one of the clubs looking to sign one of them.
Obviously, Newcastle United have lost their best winger this summer. In return, they have signed Bazoumana Toure from Hoffenheim and will be hoping his game develops as hoped. He has drawn comparisons with Ousmane Dembele.
Before signing Toure, the club had tried to bring in Victor Munoz but he ended up joining Liverpool. Now, it remains to be seen whether they sign another winger or not. At the same time, one of their current ones is drawing interest from Everton.
Everton want to sign Newcastle United winger
According to Sky Sports News, Everton have an interest in signing Jacob Murphy from Newcastle United. There has been no offer yet but they are keeping an eye on his availability.
Murphy is not the only winger on Everton’s radar though. They are also interested in bringing back Jack Grealish after he spent the previous season on loan at the club.
It remains to be seen if Everton do end up making a move for Murphy or not. If they do, the club would need to bring in a replacement before considering letting another winger leave.
Murphy might not be considered a nailed-on starter, but he did start in 19 Premier League games last season. So, he is a key part of Eddie Howe’s squad for sure.
Can Newcastle afford a Murphy exit at this point in time?
One thing that deserves mention when it comes to any potential Murphy exit is the experience that Newcastle United would be losing if he does end up leaving.
Murphy is 31 years of age and has spent almost a decade at Newcastle United now. The Magpies have already seen a lot of experience leave through the exit door. Can they afford more?
The club’s focus has very much been on signing highly-rated youngsters. But you simply cannot build an entire squad around youth and potential.
Chelsea did try to go that route under BlueCo and we have all seen the results. Newcastle United have been more successful during that period. So, there is no real reason for them to do a complete U-turn and adopt a strategy that we have seen fail in the Premier League already.
