Time sure does fly. It feels like yesterday that the World Cup kicked off, and now, the first semi-final is already set. On the other hand, a lot of the focus will soon start to shift towards the transfer market and the moves that take place there. As for Newcastle United, they have left themselves with a lot of work to do.
Firstly, two of their best players have already left. Anthony Gordon has joined FC Barcelona, while Sandro Tonali will be playing for Tottenham Hotspur from the 26/27 campaign.
For those two transfers, Newcastle United have brought in about £170 million in fees. Ideally, one would not want the club to let go of another of their best performers in the same window. Yet, it looks like that is very much on the cards.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Bruno Guimaraes. But it looks like the Brazilian has made his stance very clear with his latest move.
French media drop worrying Bruno Guimaraes update
According to L’Equipe (via The Standard), Guimaraes has agreed terms with Arsenal for a contract that will run until 2031. However, the report states there has been no breakthrough between the two clubs over a transfer fee.
Fabrizio Romano mentioned yesterday that Newcastle United would be looking for a transfer fee in the region of £90 million to sanction Guimaraes’ exit this summer.
It remains to be seen if Arsenal are willing to pay that to sign someone who is 28 years of age already, but at the same time, one of the best midfielders in the Premier League without a doubt.
Guimaraes is clearly ready to move to Arsenal if he can get the green light. But the Magpies are in a position where they can hold out for what they view as the right offer, or not sanction an exit at all.
Will Guimaraes leave Newcastle United this summer?
Is Guimaraes one of the best players at Newcastle United right now? Without a shred of a doubt. He is most probably the very best.
That being said, if there is one that has become clear over the past twelve months, it is that the Magpies are open to their best players leaving for the right offer.
Will Guimaraes’ name end up on that quickly-growing list that already includes Gordon, Tonali and Alexander Isak? We won’t have to wait too long to find out.
If Guimaraes does end up leaving, replacing him will be a headache for Newcastle United. But it appears they are already in pole position for the Brazilian international’s potential replacement.
