AS Monaco player wants to join Newcastle United this summer

Newcastle United have seen some key players leave the club in the ongoing summer transfer window. Of course, they have weakened the squad significantly. Anthony Gordon has headed to Barcelona. Sandro Tonali will be turning out in a Tottenham Hotspur jersey next season.

But those two moves have brought in significant transfer fees to St James’ Park as well. It took Barcelona north of £70 million to sign Gordon. Tottenham have agreed on a £100 million package to secure Tonali’s signing.

Newcastle United will now be looking to reinvest that money back into the squad. They have already agreed a deal of around €50 million for Bazoumana Toure, who is on the verge of completing a move.

It looks like they might be in contention to sign a couple of midfielders as well. The club are believed to be in advanced talks to sign Johan Manzambi from SC Freiburg. And he could be joined might a midfielder from AS Monaco as well, who seems interested in the idea of joining Newcastle United.

AS Monaco midfielder wants to join Newcastle United

According to a report from journalist Mark Douglas in The i Paper, Lamine Camara is understood to be keen on a move to Newcastle United.

Of course, this is not the first time that Camara’s name has come up regarding a potential move to Newcastle United. The Magpies are believed to be interested in the midfielder as well.

Camara represented Senegal at the World Cup. And now, the 22-year-old could be eyeing his next step, which could very well be a move to Newcastle United.

He has been at AS Monaco since 2022 and has already proven himself in French football. Remarkably, at 22 years of age, he already has 49 appearances for the Senegal international team as well, which just goes to show how highly he is regarded.

Would Camara be a good signing for the Magpies?

Camara operates in the middle of the park, whether it be as a 6 or an 8. Last season, he scored three goals and provided four assists across all competitions.

So, Camara is not someone who you would expect to come in and produce significant numbers in terms of goals and assists. He is not that type of midfielder.

It is in the defensive phase of the game that Camara shines brightest. In Ligue 1, he was in the 96th percentile for possessions won in the final third, 93rd percentile for recoveries and 94th percentile for interceptions. He also wins a lot of duels and foul.

Those numbers paint a very good picture of what Newcastle United can expect if they end up signing Camara. The transfer fee is expected to be north of £40 million if the move does happen.
