‘Advanced talks’ – Newcastle United close in on another signing after Bazoumana Toure

Newcastle United did not waste much time after news broke of Sandro Tonali’s £100 million move to Tottenham Hotspur. Soon afterwards, reports emerged that the Magpies had agreed a deal of their own and were set to bring in Bazoumana Toure from Bundesliga side Hoffenheim.

Newcastle United do need a lot more than that though. Fortunately, it looks like the Magpies have no intention of slowing down, even though the Toure deal has been agreed.

Work is well underway when it comes to completing another signing. They have strengthened the wing options with Toure. Now, the midfield could be the area of focus, which is understandable, considering Tonali’s exit.

According to Ben Jacobs, Newcastle United are optimistic about agreeing a deal for SC Freiburg midfielder Johan Manzambi. Advanced talks are ongoing.

Newcastle United in advanced talks to sign Johan Manzambi

The name of Manzambi has done the rounds of the Newcastle United transfer mill for the last few days now. And it looks like the Magpies are already far ahead in the process than most fans would have imagined.

In fact, some reports have suggested that personal terms are already in place with Manzambi himself. If that is indeed the case, it makes the move easier to pull off.

Manzambi is currently on the books at SC Freiburg. First Toure and now the Swiss midfielder. It goes to show that the Bundesliga is a league that the Magpies have been scouting quite heavily.

Obviously, Manzambi has made his presence felt at the ongoing World Cup as well. He was one of the primary reasons behind Switzerland topping their group, as he produced three goals and an assist in just one start.

Would Manzambi be a good signing?

A player as versatile as Manzambi would add a lot to this Newcastle United team. Of course, the Swissman is being viewed by many as the replacement for Tonali in midfield.

Manzambi does have the ability to play in a secondary striker role as well though. And considering his output, it is safe to say that he has an eye for goal.

It remains to be seen if the move ends up going through ot not. It would not be a surprise if you see Manzambi playing his football in a Newcastle United jersey next season though.

This just goes to show Newcastle United’s transfer policy this summer, especially when combined with Toure. The Magpies seem intent on adding youth and quality to the squad at the same time.
