The World Cup is in full swing. We already know most of the teams that will be playing in the Round of 16 of the tournament. A few more are set to join them before the brackets are completely set. And one Newcastle United transfer target booked his place recently with another brilliant display.
Obviously, the World Cup is a great tournament to scout talents, with players from all over the globe taking centre-stage for more than a month. Some are certainly shining brighter than others.
The Swiss national team became the latest team to book their place in the Round of 16. They will face either Colombia or Ghana in that match.
One of Switzerland’s best players on the day was Johan Manzambi, who provided an assist. He now has five goal contributions at the World Cup from just two starts. Newcastle United have taken note and are already involved in talks to sign him. Craig Hope wrote on X:
Johan Manzambi very impressive tonight. He plays like a winger in the middle of the park. Dribbling, daring, dashing. Newcastle talks ongoing.
Who is Johan Manzambi, the Swiss midfielder Newcastle are in talks to sign?
Let’s not forget, Manzambi has had to play his way into the team. He made just one start in the group stages. But that did not stop him from registering three goals and an assist.
So, by the time Manzambi’s name was in the starting XI against Algeria, it did not come as a surprise. He backed that up by providing another assist.
At the club level, Manzambi has been an impressive contributor as well. He scored seven goals and provided nine assists across all competitions for Bundesliga side SC Freiburg.
Newcastle United have already agreed a deal to sign one of the Bundesliga’s most exciting rising talents in the form of Bazoumana Toure. How close are they to adding Manzambi’s name to that list?
How close are Newcastle United to signing Johan Manzambi from SC Freiburg?
Well, it is widely accepted that Newcastle United are in talks to sign Manzambi. But exactly how close are they? As the midfielder continues to impress at the World Cup, there is always a risk that other clubs could swoop in and ruin the Magpies’ plans.
Some reports have claimed that personal terms have already been agreed with Manzambi. Others have not gone so far, although they have described talks as ‘advanced’.
It is quite clear that there is something substantial and this is not merely a rumour. But as long as a deal is not officially done, one cannot relax.
Manzambi looks like a real talent Newcastle United have managed to scout. Now, it is about getting the deal over the line and signing him.
