Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes decision confirmed after £100m Sandro Tonali exit

The Sandro Tonali transfer saga is over. It concluded faster than most had anticipated. The Italian midfielder will be joining Tottenham Hotspur. In return, Newcastle United are set to pocket a £100 million transfer package, with more than £90 million of that thought to be guaranteed.

Of course, that is a large windfall and could help Newcastle United rebuild their squad. That being said, there is no hiding from the fact that they are losing one of their best players, if not the very best.

Anthony Gordon has already left for Barcelona. Tonali is headed to Tottenham. The Magpies are going to have a tough time filling the void left behind. And they cannot afford to add to it.

That is where the Bruno Guimaraes situation becomes even more important. The Brazilian midfielder is enjoying an excellent World Cup campaign and has a tournament-best four assists. At the same time, he is drawing the interest of Arsenal, who seem keen to strengthen their squad further despite winning the Premier League and reaching the Champions League final last season.

Newcastle United make Bruno Guimaraes exit decision

In the eyes of many fans, Newcastle United simply cannot afford to see Guimaraes leave in this summer transfer window. And it looks like the club hierarchy view the situation with the same lenses.

According to Chronicle Live, Newcastle United have no intention of parting with Guimaraes despite the interest from Arsenal. The Magpies are aware of the Brazilian midfielder’s concerns on the direction of the club.

Newcastle United seem to be planning to bring in some dynamic youngsters this summer. And they want Guimaraes to play a key role in leading the rebuild.

We have already seen the early signs of that rebuild. Soon after the Tonali exit news emerged, the story also broke that the Magpies had agreed a €50 million deal to sign Bazoumana Toure from Hoffenheim. He would fit the exact profile that is being talked about.

Would Guimaraes be open to staying at Newcastle United?

This is the big question in this situation. Would the Brazilian midfielder even be open to the idea of staying on at Newcastle United to lead their rebuild?

This has been a breakout World Cup campaign for him in many ways. Coming out of it, at 28 years of age, it might be his last real chance to get a top move elsewhere.

It might not just be about Arsenal. Someone like Guimaraes could fit the needs of a lot of clubs. For example, if Enzo Fernandez leaves Chelsea, he would be a dream replacement. Or if Real Madrid fail to sign the Argentine, he could be a solid alternative.

So, it remains to be seen if Guimaraes ends up pushing for a move away or not. When it comes to Newcastle United, it looks like the plan is pretty clear when it comes to the Brazilian midfielder’s future.
