Newcastle United have had a tough time keeping hold of their best players this summer. The club could not keep Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon, as they left for Tottenham Hotspur and FC Barcelona, respectively. More could be set to follow out of the exit door.
Bruno Guimaraes has agreed personal terms with Arsenal. So, the club captain is clearly interested in engineering a move away from St James’ Park, having seen some of his most talented teammates leave.
The rumours linking Lewis Hall with a move to Manchester United refuse to go away either. It remains to be seen if the Old Trafford outfit make a serious bid or not over the coming weeks.
Amid all this, one of the club’s most important players has chosen to commit his future with Newcastle United, which should come as a major boost for the Magpies.
Newcastle United player agrees new deal
According to Fabrizio Romano, Harvey Barnes has signed a new deal at Newcastle United today. The agreement has been completed.
Of course, Barnes was one of the most important parts of the team last season. Across all competitions, he scored 16 goals and provided six assists.
Even more importantly, he saves his best performances for the Champions League. Barnes produced six goals and four assists in just 12 appearances in Europe’s elite competition.
That included a match-winning brace against Benfica as well as a goal and an assist over the two legs against FC Barcelona in the round of 16.
Newcastle have also signed Bazoumana Toure
Barnes signing a new deal has to be considered a boost for Newcastle United. On the other hand, they have further strengthened on the flanks this summer.
Of course, Barnes can play on both wings. On top of that, Newcastle United have also brought in Bazoumana Toure from Hoffenheim in this window.
Toure was one of the fastest-rising prospects in the Bundesliga. In fact, his style of play drew comparisons with current Ballon d’Or holder, Ousmane Dembele.
Obviously, there are some doubts about whether Toure will be able to adjust to the Premier League or not. But if he is successful, the Magpies could have an excellent pairing on the wings.
Newcastle United will be hoping that that proves enough to fill the void left behind by Gordon, who has moved to Barcelona. There have also been rumours linking the Magpies with signing another winger this summer.
