- Newcastle United shirt to expire
- Magpies look to build on £25m deal
- Newcastle won’t follow Chelsea and Nottingham Forest
There had been much speculation among Newcastle United supporters online that the club would at least be starting the 2026/27 Premier League campaign without a front-of-shirt sponsor.
This is something supporters in England have seen frequently in recent seasons, with Nottingham Forest and Chelsea both finalising sponsorship deals while the season was already underway.
Their current shirt sponsor is Sela, a Saudi Arabian sports events agency, which became their main sponsor a few seasons after the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund took majority ownership of the club. The deal was reportedly worth around £25 million per annum.
NewcastleWorld reports that the club will not follow Forest’s or Chelsea’s approach of finalising shirt sponsorships later in the campaign, with work already underway to secure a new deal ahead of the upcoming season.
Newcastle United chief on revenue streams
One of the biggest talking points regarding the Black and Whites last week was a meeting involving club officials to discuss the future of the team and key operational priorities.
One major element of that discussion came after Magpies CEO David Hopkinson held separate business meetings in London. AdamTheCCO on TikTok attended the event, where Hopkinson reportedly revealed there is “£100 million of missed revenue just sitting there”.
AdamTheCCO spoke on TikTok about the most interesting parts of Hopkinson’s presentation, in which the CEO suggested the club is losing significant income through sponsorship and digital revenue opportunities that could help propel them further up the Premier League table.
He said: “Newcastle are sitting on roughly £100 million in untapped sponsorship and digital revenue every single year. Their current run rate is around £400–£450 million, but he thinks he can get that to £550 million.”
The Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules have limited the club’s flexibility, although reaching the projected revenue target would provide significantly greater financial headroom. Securing improved commercial deals will be key to their long-term ambitions.
Newcastle’s front-of-shirt sponsor target
Back in 2024, GiveMeSport published a report on Premier League clubs’ sponsorship revenues, including front-of-shirt deals. At the time, Newcastle were ranked sixth, with Chelsea not featuring due to a lack of a sponsor.
However, the gap to fifth-placed Arsenal was around £15 million, and breaking into the top three would require Newcastle to nearly double their current deal value.
Newcastle will be aiming to secure a higher-value agreement, but with the financial strength of the Premier League’s traditional top clubs, it remains a significant challenge for the board to navigate.
