Dear Yankuba Minteh,
Three games, two goals. That is your record against Newcastle United since you signed for Brighton.
You’ve already made our hearts heavy at the thought of what could have been if we had kept you on Tyneside; please don’t make it any worse.
From the moment we signed you, to that unforgettable explosive loan spell at Feyenoord that had us all licking our lips, to the day you were announced as a Brighton player – we Geordies always knew you were magnetic.
Unfortunately for us, that magnet is now solely focused on making us pay for letting you go.
We understood when you were sold, or at least we tried to. PSR this, financial fair play that. But that doesn’t make it any easier to watch you line up for Brighton and torture us at every opportunity.
And here we are, once again. But this time, in by far the worst predicament since your departure.
This isn’t one of those messages wishing you well, at least not for 90 minutes. But it also isn’t one of those looking to intimidate you with tales of the raucous atmosphere at St James’ Park.
It is merely a plea for mercy.
We all know what you can do. We’ve seen it as our player (kind of); we’ve already seen it against us on multiple occasions. We’ll likely see it again, over and over again, for the next decade.
But just this once, take a moment. Remember who gave you the platform to burst onto the scene in the Netherlands. Remember the club who took the risk to bring you to England. Because deep down, there’s still that feeling that you were meant to be ours – You’ll always be our one that got away.
Even if you do nothing else for Newcastle United in your career, just please stay quiet – for old times’ sake.
In other news, Newcastle United could exploit £30m Yoane Wissa transfer loophole this summer.
