While several players have been linked away from Newcastle United this summer, fewer have been mentioned in arriving on Tyneside. One new face that could be joining the Black and Whites this summer is AFC Bournemouth star Marcus Tavernier.

TEAMtalk reports that the Englishman is high up on the list of the Magpies this summer as they are in search of new players to improve their squad. The Magpies met the Cherries earlier this month, and the 27-year-old had a fine afternoon.

Following the game, the Bournemouth Echo rated the Man of the Match a 9/10 and said: “The English forward was brilliant, full of energy in the press and a well taken goal from close range, getting in just the right position to touch home.”

The Cherries player has already spent time at the St James’ Park outfit, featuring in the youth system alongside his brother, James, who is the Rangers captain.

The 27-year-old made his breakthrough at fellow North East club Middlesbrough before moving to Bournemouth in 2022.

Since Andoni Iraola’s appointment, the Englishman has been a key player in the Cherries side, having played the majority of games in the Premier League. This has been showcased this season, where he’s featured 30 times so far.

In those 30 matches, he’s registered 10 goal contributions, which have been heavily influential in their push towards European football this season.

Tavernier’s work rate and intensity are vital to Iraola’s style of play, and his wand of a left foot is special -capable of opening up any backline in England.

Bournemouth will be going through a transition this summer with their manager already announcing that he’ll be seeking pastures new, which could lead to others following suit.

No price tag has been placed on Tavernier’s head at this stage, but with three years left on his deal at the Vitality Stadium, it may prove costly for the Black and Whites.

Is Marcus Tavernier a viable signing?

Newcastle need additional attacking threat next season. For a team that has been so used to blowing teams away under Eddie Howe, they have lacked that killer touch this year.

Tavernier can help provide the creativity, but is he exactly what the Magpies need to take that next step? It’s not clear.

The Tyneside outfit needs someone to press and work hard for their team, which he can contribute, but it feels like a sideways step more than a stride in the right direction for the Magpies.

In other news, Craig Hope confirms Newcastle United star with 122 Premier League appearances will leave this summer.
