- Tino Livramento injury could spell end of Newcastle United career
- Interest rife for right back amid Magpies’ need to sell
- Other departures also on the cards
Tino Livramento’s current stint in the physio room could signal the end of his Newcastle United career. Livramento is currently suffering with a groin injury picked up against Bournemouth.
Livramento has been touted for a move away from the club this summer, with Premier League clubs including Manchester City sniffing around his signature.
The England international looks set to be on the sidelines for the remainder of the season, meaning he may have played his last game in a black and white shirt. Livramento could be one of a couple of big departures from Tyneside in the coming transfer window.
Speaking about the injury after defeat to Bournemouth, Howe said: “Yeah, for Tino, that’s a huge blow for him, but for us, I actually thought he, in part, with Kieran’s introduction at the beginning of the second half, made us stronger, and then losing him was a big blow.”
The defender has since needed two scans on his thigh with the ‘best case’ scenario being that the player is back for the final two fixtures of the campaign.
Livramento transfer interest amid poor performances
Manchester City have been interested in doing a deal for Livramento since last summer. The right back is seen as a player who could shape the next decade for Pep’s side. The player joined Newcastle from Southampton for £40 million in 2023.
City were reportedly ready to pay around £60-70m for Livramento, but that interest has cooled in recent weeks amid the ongoing injury problems and some rather poor performances on the pitch.
Livramento has come under criticism amid the current crisis at Newcastle, with his lack of concentration and inability to play in forward areas earning him some harsh words from fans and pundits.
Of all Newcastle’s big players, the 23-year-old feels one of the most replaceable, and the Magpies may look to cash in whilst his value is still high in order to fund the rebuild that is on the cards this summer.
Should Man City be tempted into a concrete move for the right back, Newcastle are said to be open to his departure, with other players already scouted for that position.
Newcastle United must sign a right back
Eddie Howe needs reinforcements in the right-back position as it is, with Kieran Trippier already confirmed to be leaving the club when his contract expires.
Should Tino also see the exit door, that could leave the Magpies needing to sign two players to fill the holes left.
Newcastle have been linked with some names in recent weeks, the most prominent of which is Genk’s Zakaria El Ouahdi, who has been in very solid form for the Belgian side this season.
The money accrued from a Livramento sale would likely be more than enough to secure the services of a profile like El Ouahdi and could even be enough to sign a backup as well.
Big summer transfer window ahead
The upcoming summer transfer window will be a big one no matter what for Newcastle.
This season has far from gone to plan for the Magpies, and the consensus is that a rebuild is needed this summer if the club are to be back fighting for the Champions League places once again next season.
Alongside Livramento, Anthony Gordon also looks to be nearing a departure. The money brought in by those two alone, plus whatever is already in the transfer kitty, could be enough to fund this summer’s exploits.
There are some other departures likely on the cards, with Yoane Wissa reportedly set for a move away from the club and other players like Joe Willock seeing their future uncertain amid the new recruitment focus.
