- Tino Livramento forced off with injury against Bournemouth
- Defender has already suffered two major injuries this season
- Clear timeline on injury expected next week
Newcastle United defender Tino Livramento was taken off in the club’s 2-1 defeat with yet another injury issue. Magpies’ manager Eddie Howe said it’s a ‘huge blow’ to see him sidelined.
It’s suspected that the English defender has picked up a thigh injury, which saw him be replaced with Dan Burn with a quarter of an hour remaining of the game. Bournemouth left back Adrian Truffert would score a winner for the Cherries just several minutes later.
The 23-year-old has already faced a lengthy period out of the team this season. That was due to a hamstring injury, which kept him out for over two months. A seven-week lay off with a knee issue also followed. It’s unclear at this stage what his recovery will look like.
Newcastle United dealt injury blow ahead of Arsenal
Once again at St James’ Park, Howe’s troops fall to a defeat, as they suffered an agonising 2-1 defeat.
Marcus Tavernier gave the away side the lead, before the game was levelled by William Osula. With five minutes to go in Tyneside, Andoni Iraola’s side grabbed the winner through their French full back.
Unfortunately for the Toon Army, their full back, Tino Livramento, looks set to miss some pretty big games, which will define their season, starting next week when they meet current Premier League leaders, Arsenal.
The Black and Whites have just come out of a huge injury crisis, which has seen many first-team players out of the team, with Bruno Guimaraes making his return this afternoon as a substitute after being out since February.
The injury means that Kieran Trippier will likely replace him in the line-up as he represents Newcastle for a final few weeks. The timeline for Livramento’s injury will be revealed over the coming days, before their travel to the Emirates Stadium.
What Eddie Howe said about Tino Livramento
Speaking after the game, when asked for updates on Lewis Hall and Anthony Gordon, as well as Livramento, Eddie Howe said: “That was tactical.
“For Tino that’s a huge blow for him and for us. With Anthony, we’re unclear. I don’t think it’s a long-term injury, whether he makes it next week, I don’t know. We’ll have to see how he goes in training.”
There has been much discussion of the 23-year-old’s future on Tyneside, with big Premier League sides showing keen interest in him, like several other teammates.
Lewis Hall has developed significantly this season, and in a tough campaign, he has shone at St James’ Park.
The same can’t be said of Livramento, who has been injured several times at this stage, and regularly underperformed when fit.
The result on Saturday puts plenty of pressure on Howe, and while he isn’t faultless, players like Livramento need to provide a helping hand, something he can’t claim he’s achieved this season.
The blow for the club is huge, but perhaps Trippier won’t be the only right back spending his final weeks on Tyneside.
