Newcastle United’s worst Livramento nightmare arrives

  • Livramento’s current situation at Newcastle
  • English full-back linked with exit
  • Eddie Howe’s alternative plan

Tino Livramento’s future at Newcastle United is in doubt. The chances of him remaining at St James’ Park are in doubt amid the threat of no European competition next season a real possibility.

The Magpies have endured a gruelling past few months, and this period has taken a toll on the players. Having exited all competitions, Eddie Howe’s men’s only hope is a top-half finish and possibly Conference League qualification. However, such circumstances could lead to players like Livramento, Sandro Tonali, and Anthony Gordon leaving.

This season, Livramento has managed only 12 Premier League starts and has been sidelined with injuries. However, he impressed when available.

Livramento Headed For Summer Exit

Footballer Insider reports that Livramento is more likely to leave than stay at Newcastle this summer. The 23-year-old was part of the Carabao Cup success and Champions League qualification last season.

Howe wants him to stay but for the past few months, the top two Premier League clubs, Arsenal and Manchester City, have been linked with the player. He does have two more years on his contract but the likelhood of an extension probably rests on European qualification, with the Magpies sat 12th.

Having a market value of between £60 million and £70 million, it’s easy to understand why offers are anticipated this summer. Additionally, reports from The Telegraph claim “Livramento’s unwillingness to extend his contract makes Newcastle vulnerable.”

Manchester City could swoop for the Englishman and Pep Guardiola does appear keen. He is regarded as one of the best full-backs in the Premier League.

Losing such a player for Howe would cause huge damage. Whatever happens, this could be a busy transfer window for the Tyneside giants.

Newcastle Back-up Plan

If Livramento were to leave, it could pave the way for Kieran Trippier to be handed a new deal. The 35-year-old has been rotating with his fellow countryman this season.

With the youngster nearing the exit door, reports suggest Trippier might be in for an extension. His current deal is up in the summer.

That decision will depend on whether the veteran right-back is willing to stay at St. James Park. He might base this on game time and the terms on offer.
