Speculation is swirling surrounding the future of Anthony Gordon at Newcastle United amid interest from Bayern Munich. The current reports suggest Gordon would be keen on a move to the Bundesliga this summer.

A transfer would see him link up with Harry Kane, whom he has been vocal about his admiration for in the past on multiple occasions.

Gordon and Kane have been England teammates at almost every international checkpoint over the last couple of years. The Newcastle winger would likely jump at the chance to play with the former Tottenham man week in, week out.

Harry Kane’s advice to Anthony Gordon

Speaking in an interview while on international duty at the back end of last year, Gordon was very open about his relationship with Kane and how the Bayern striker had become a sort of mentor to him.

Speaking about Kane giving him advice, Gordon said: “I think he has been naturally doing that for definitely the past two years, since I have been playing with him.

“He [Harry Kane] has been on fire this year; he is someone whose brains I try and pick.

“I probably do his head in most of the time, to be honest, but I try and just pick anything I can from him, because he is a genius.

“He is playing at the very, very highest level a footballer can play, so I just try to annoy him and ask him as many questions as I can.”

From those comments alone, it is clear to see how big of an impact Kane has had on Gordon.

Gordon compares Woltemade to Kane

Gordon has also mentioned Kane when speaking to the media about Nick Woltemade.

The England international has been vocal in comparing the German to Kane, suggesting they both complement his playing style off the left wing well:

“I think they do play a very similar style of football, in terms of wanting to almost be the quarterback – they want to come in and create; they don’t just want to finish the chances like a typical striker would do,” he said. The amount of assists Harry’s got over the past couple of years and over his career is outstanding.

“For me, personally, I think it helps me – I think my style suits playing with that style of striker, because I can run off them.

“If defenders want to go and engage with them, I can run off the back, so I think it’s really positive for me, and I really enjoy it.”

Given Eddie Howe’s reluctance to play Woltemade up front, Gordon may well favour a move to Bayern, which would allow him to move back to his favoured left side and link up with Kane.

Gordon to Bayern Munich on the cards

If the Bayern Munich interest springs into a concrete offer, Harry Kane could be a crucial factor in Gordon’s decision.

Newcastle are reportedly open to letting Gordon depart this summer should the right offer come along.

Add to that the fondness Gordon clearly has for the former Tottenham man, and there may be no real allure for the winger to stay on Tyneside.

Gordon will have to fight for a starting spot with Luis Diaz should he make the transfer, but given his belief that he is at the elite level, there is nothing to suggest Gordon would shy away from that challenge.

It feels increasingly likely that Gordon is to join Kane this summer, so Newcastle will have to prepare contingency plans for that eventuality this summer.
