Newcastle: Simon Jordan Sympathises With ‘Frustrated’ Eddie Howe

  • Simon Jordan claims it will be a tough summer for Howe
  • Lack of direction for Newcastle to achieve their aims
  • Have the board supported Magpies’ manager enough?

It’s been Newcastle’s worst season under Eddie Howe, with the Magpies struggling in the league and out of all cup competitions. On talkSPORT, Simon Jordan claims the club ‘can’t do it’ when reaching the heights of the Premier League, which isn’t Eddie Howe’s fault.

Jordan says the club will have “to change the direction that they are going on” if they are to reach their 2030 targets, including making sure their best players stay around, but that doesn’t seem likely.

“I don’t see how it can’t be a difficult summer, I don’t see how Eddie Howe can’t be more frustrated”.

Newcastle misery set to continue?

St James’ Park hasn’t had many things to celebrate this season, and matters were made even worse before the international break as they suffered defeat to rivals Sunderland.

These past two weeks, Sandro Tonali, Tino Livramento and Bruno Guimaraes have all been linked away from Tyneside, which will give the club serious headaches.

Jordan believes that this summer will continue to hurt the club, with big names expected to exit.

“Despite my admiration for Newcastle, if they are going to get to 2030 having won something, they are going to have to change the direction of travel they are going on. The only way to do it is to build a stadium, the only way to do it is to keep their best players.

Newcastle CEO David Hopkinson was introduced at the end of 2025, and his vision is to have Howe’s side in the debate for being a top club by 2030.

Jordan wants more substance from the club to demonstrate their authority and clearly show why these aspirations can be achieved.

“It’s all well and good bringing out these statements like politicians do, but no one actually tells how you’re going to do it or the ramifications of it and the consequences.”

The Premier League has some of the most successful and richest clubs in European football, with the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United all having notable power.

Even with Newcastle’s owners having the highest net worth, they have still been unable to catch the leading pack, which Jordan is keen to emphasise.

“They cannot catch them economically. How are they going to do it? Because the only way they are going to do it is increase the revenue streams to buy the best players and keep them.”

Harsh on Howe

Hopkinson recently spoke in a press conference when the Magpies’ most recent accounts were released, and he was asked about the future of Howe.

The 48-year-old received little backing from the CEO as he said he doesn’t have ‘a stance on his future.’

While there has been criticism levelled at Howe for understandable questions, the board have supported the boss poorly, with the planning around Alexander Isak’s departure being a case study.

Howe has been able to help players grow during their time in Black and White, but them leaving would destroy the hard work he’s achieved, and without suitable replacements, they would have to start from the beginning again, something Jordan was keen to point out.

“If you suddenly develop these wonderful players into actually being very, very good in English football like Tonali, and the reward for Tonali is him going off somewhere else.”

He continued.

“I don’t see how it can’t be a difficult summer. I don’t see how Eddie can’t be more frustrated because in order to overcome the shortcomings of this season, they need to improve.”
