Newcastle United star Joe Willock has shared a heartfelt message of support for Brentford star Josh Dasilva after the Bees man made a long-awaited comeback against Manchester United on Monday night.

The 27-year-old wasn’t handed any minutes in the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford, but was included in a matchday squad for the first time since January 2024 in a huge moment for the player and the club.

Dasilva has had to endure three operations since sustaining a knee injury at the start of 2024, which has uprooted his career. The former Arsenal youngster had made 157 appearances for Brentford prior to that, scoring 22 goals and picking up 12 assists, as he played a key part in helping the London outfit into the Premier League and establishing their top flight status.

Magpies man Willock knows Dasilva thanks to their time at the Gunners together and shared an emotional message to support his former teammate on Tuesday morning.

Willock took to Instagram and wrote: “God please continue to have your hand over my brother’s life.”

Dasilva has been supported by Brentford throughout his recovery and signed a new contract with the club in October 2025.

Josh Dasilva ‘thankful’ for Brentford support during injury

At the time, he said: “It’s been a long journey, but I can’t thank the club enough for giving me this opportunity. I don’t know how many clubs would have given a player this opportunity to carry on.

“It’s been hard, but I’m very thankful for it, and I just can’t wait to be out there enjoying my football with the boys and putting on the shirt again.

“I did my ACL, MCL and meniscus in early February 2024, and then I had to have another operation six months later, and then another operation eight months later. This is why it’s been a minute since I’ve been on the pitch.

“Right now, I’m just doing rehab outside, doing ball work and running. I’ve been doing that for quite a few weeks now, so hopefully, within the next month or so, I can start training with the team.

“I try not to look too far ahead because I’ve got today and tomorrow to focus on. I’m just taking every milestone as it comes.”
