Fans on social media are excited as Newcastle are linked with Marcelo Brozovic

Newcastle United have Isaac Hayden, Joe Willock, Sean Longstaff, Jonjoe Shelvey and Jeff Hendrick in midfield, but Martin Hardy of The Times says new manager Eddie Howe could add to his engine room when the winter transfer window opens. Fans on social media are excited by the rumours too.

The Magpies have been linked with Manchester United’s Donny Van de Beek, Juventus’ Aaron Ramsey, Chelsea’s Ross Barkley and Juventus’ Adrien Rabiot, but Howe also has Inter Milan’s Marcelo Brozovic on his shortlist. The 29-year-old is out of contract next summer and could be available on a free transfer.

Brozovic joined Inter from Dinamo Zagreb in 2016 and has gone on to make 258 appearances in all competitions, scoring 26 goals with 35 assists. The Croatian international is a regular at the San Siro, featuring in 16/16 games across the board, but Newcastle are hoping to lure him away from Italy.

Supporters would love to see Brozovic at St James’ Park, and Newcastle have lucrative resources to match transfer demands, but it remains to be seen if he’d leave Inter for the relegation-threatened Premier League outing.

In other news, fans on social media react as Newcastle are linked with Stefan de Vrij
