Fans on social media react as Newcastle are linked with Van De Beek

Newcastle United aren’t short of midfielders with Isaac Hayden, Joe Willock, Sean Longstaff, Jonjo Shelvey and Jeff Hendrick at their disposal, but ESPN say they’re after another addition to the engine room – Donny Van de Beek. Supporters on social media have had a mixed reaction to the news.

Hendrick has been short of playing time this season and may have an uncertain future at St James’ Park, so van de Beek could be a superior replacement. The 24-year-old isn’t getting a lot of minutes at Manchester United and might jump at the chance for regular football elsewhere.

Van de Beek joined the Red Devils from Ajax in 2020 and has gone on to make 41 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal with two assists.

The Netherlands international has barely featured in his second season at Old Trafford, making just five appearances from a possible 16 and amassing 154 minutes of football from 1440 available, so it’s hard to see him staying.

Whether Van de Beek is open to joining Newcastle remains to be seen, however, as the Magpies are still a work in progress despite now having lucrative resources – 19th in the Premier League and five points adrift of safety.

In other news, fans on social media stay quiet as Newcastle are linked with Abdou Diallo

matchday.
