Fans react on social media as Newcastle are linked with Ross Barkley

Newcastle United are now the richest club in Europe following their takeover by Public Investment Fund (PIF), PCP Capital Partners and RB Sports & Media, so a big January spend is expected so they can haul themselves from the relegation zone.

The Magpies are likely to strengthen every area of the squad eventually, but TEAMtalk say they’re focusing on the midfield and want to add some creativity to the engine room. Chelsea’s Ross Barkley is reportedly a target, but Newcastle will have competition from Leeds United for his signature.

Fans on social media are open to him coming to St James’ Park, so a transfer would likely be well received.

Barkley’s future at Stamford Bridge is uncertain as he’s not commanding a regular starting place under Thomas Tuchel and needs first-team football to stand a chance of making England’s squad for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar.

The 27-year-old has made 8/18 appearances in all competitions this season, amassing 238/1620 minutes of football, so he might be better off leaving when the winter transfer window opens. Barkley has a lot to prove to get himself back in the England squad, so that could be good news for Newcastle.

In other news, Fabian Schar posts picture on IG as he gears up for international duty

matchday.
