Excitement on social media as Newcastle open talks over Willock

Joe Willock impressed on loan at Newcastle United last season and the Magpies want him again this campaign. The Times say Newcastle are in talks with Arsenal over another loan move for the 21-year-old, but it remains to be seen if he’ll be granted a departure. Fans are excited on social media nevertheless.

Mikel Arteta hasn’t made a decision on Willock’s future, so it’s unknown where he’ll be playing in 2021. The midfielder has a better chance of getting first-team football at St James’ Park, but he may want to prove himself at the Emirates.

The 21-year-old has made 78 appearances across the board for the Gunners, scoring 11 goals with four assists. He’s started only 51% of those games, however, as competition for places has been fierce.

Willock found himself behind Thomas Partey, Mohamed Elneny, Granit Xhaka and Emile Smith-Rowe in the pecking order last season, so he spent the campaign at Newcastle.

The England U21 international fared very well in the North-East and certainly did his chances of an Arsenal return no harm. Newcastle supporters want him back this season but don’t want to jump the gun.
