A number of Newcastle United supporters have urged the club not to make a potential move for Manchester United defender Phil Jones in January after reports emerged over their renewed interest in the 28-year-old.
The Magpies were linked with a potential move for the England international in the summer, but in the end, no move materialised. The Magpies have allowed Florian Lejuene to leave the club on loan to Alaves, and considering he is entering the final year of his deal, they may need to bring in a potential replacement with a view to next season.
Jones has struggled to make any sort of impact at Manchester United in recent years, seeing his career stagnate. The centre-back madejust two Premier League appearances last term (Sofascore), partly down to injury issues and also due to the form of others, and he has sometimes been scrutinised for individual mistakes.
It has now emerged that Steve Bruce has been keeping a watchful eye over his situation at Old Trafford with the Newcastle manager enquiring to first team coach Michael Carrick, per Eurosport. The defender is also attracting the interest of West Ham and Leicester City.
Newcastle fans react to potential Phil Jones arrival
Many Newcastle fans were keen to suggest that the Magpies should “stay clear of” signing Jones, with some believing he is no better than what they have, while others suggested that signing a centre-back should not be the priority in January.

Forget the debate about his ability, centre back should not be a focus.
I assume we don’t have a huge budget so we need to spend what do have on a couple of quality central midfielders.

Just bring back Florian Legeune back and admit making a mistake by letting him go 🤷♂️
