Newcastle manager is now after a new striker

A report in the ChronicleLive has suggested that Rafa Benitez has dropped a huge hint that he is looking for another striker, and that fans should expect some more outgoing movement very shortly.

With Darryl Murphy heading off to Nottingham Forest, and Adam Armstrong having been loaned out to Bolton Wanderers, Newcastle’s current strike force consists of Aleksandar Mitrovic, Dwight Gayle, and Emmanuel Riviere. However, Riviere is for sale if a club offers the right price, and Mitrovic could also leave as he is attracting interest from clubs in Turkey and France.

Mo Diame, Siem De Jong, and Ayoze Perez are options in the No. 10 position, but it’s believed that Benitez is keen to bring in another consistent goalscorer that can help keep them in the Premier League.

When asked about bringing in new players, Benitez responded:

“We are trying to change some players. We have to wait to see the right offers and then after we will see if we can add some players.I think we need some more players. I wouldn’t say how many, but it also depends on the market.Mike convinced me he would give us the last penny of the money available. We are not asking for more, we are asking for the money we can use. We can generate some more money. Hopefully we can do that.”

Selling Riviere or Mitrovic will help increase Benitez’s spending money over the next few weeks, while he also has the money from the sale of Murphy added to his kitty. Newcastle have already spent £30 million this transfer window, but the former Liverpool boss is hopeful of adding to this.
