Newcastle are edging closer to announcing their fifth signing of the summer as Florian Thauvin has arrived on Tyneside ahead of his medical later today, as per InfoSport+.
Chief scout Graham Carr has been a long-term admirer of Thauvin and first attempted to land the Frenchman during his time at Bastia, but Newcastle were beaten to his signature by Lille.
Two years on and Carr looks set to finally land his man, for £12million. As part of the deal, Newcastle will be sending Remy Cabella to Marseille initially on loan, despite The Chronicle‘s claim that a permanent deal had been agreed, with a view to permanent.
The agreed future fee is believed to be in the region of €8million – almost half of what Newcastle paid for the 25-year-old last summer.
While some fans would prefer to see Cabella kept and given a chance at Newcastle, the prospect of having Thauvin on Tyneside – a former Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year award winner – is a mouthwatering prospect.
