Newcastle, Bournemouth and Everton have all tabled offers for Barnsley defender Mason Holgate and, despite reports suggesting AFC Bournemouth were closing in on a £1millon deal, it is Everton who look set to seal his signature.
According to the Daily Mail, Holgate was due to meet the Cherries this week, but Everton has succeeded with an eleventh-hour bid. The 18-year-old, who had a trial with Manchester United in July, is now set to undergo a medical.
Holgate made 22 appearances for Barnsley last season, scoring and assisting once in the process and can play at either right-back or centre-half.
The Magpies are seemingly in the market for a full-back, following Haidara’s sub-standard performance against Southampton and Ryan Taylor’s departure earlier this summer.

Chief scout Graham Carr and McClaren’s assistant coach Ian Cathro were sent to watch Leeds United’s Sam Byram last Saturday, but fresh reports suggest the Championship outfit are preparing a new deal for the 21-year-old.
Should Newcastle land Byram, he will provide cover for Dutch right-back Daryl Janmaat and would probably be handed first-team football in cup competitions.
