Newcastle United remain interested in signing Brighton & Hove Albion defender Lewis Dunk and will go head-to-head with Fulham for his signature, according to the Mirror.
The Cottagers have already had two bids rejected for Dunk and are currently preparing a £4million bid but, with Newcastle lurking, the Seagulls are likely to hold out for a larger fee.
The 23-year-old was an integral part of Brighton’s team last year, making 43 appearances and scoring seven in the process.
Steve McClaren is said to be a keen admirer and had attempted to sign Dunk during his tenure at Derby County though the funds were not available. Should McClaren follow up his initial interest, it is likely Dunk would set him back roughly £5million.
Though he would be an instant upgrade on 32-year-old Mike Williamson, surely Newcastle should be aiming for a higher bracket of defender, having been linked with Aymen Abdennour, Nicolas Nkoulou and Joel Matip already this window.
What do you make of Lewis Dunk – would he be an improvement or a wasteful signing?
