Newcastle handed DOUBLE injury boost as Joelinton and González return to training

Newcastle United have received a double injury boost after Joelinton and Nico González returned to first-team training on Tuesday.

Hayters reports that both midfielders were involved, raising hopes that Matthias Jaissle could have more options when Premier League football resumes.

Newcastle visit Coventry City on Monday, 12 October, giving the pair further time to build towards a competitive return.

Joelinton and González back in training

Joelinton has yet to feature for Newcastle this season, with his absence denying Jaissle an experienced midfield option during his opening weeks in charge.

The Brazilian had already outlined his target of returning after the international break. His involvement on Tuesday provides fresh encouragement towards that aim.

González also missed Newcastle’s final match before the break, the 2-1 victory over Hull City.

Their training returns are positive developments, although neither player’s involvement against Coventry has been confirmed.

Jaissle could regain midfield options

The club’s report of the Hull victory highlighted the extent of Newcastle’s selection problems, with Sean Steur and Joe Willock coming into the starting side.

Willock scored alongside Lewis Hall as Newcastle secured three points despite a depleted squad.

Having Joelinton and González available again would give Jaissle greater scope to rotate and strengthen his bench.

There are still other fitness concerns to resolve. Hayters reports that Dan Burn, Jacob Ramsey, William Osula, Anthony Elanga, Tino Livramento and Amar Dedić were not part of Tuesday’s training group.

For now, the two midfield returns represent an encouraging step ahead of Coventry.
