Newcastle United received an encouraging update on Lewis Hall as the defender returned to England’s starting line-up for Tuesday’s 2-0 win over Czechia.
Hall started at left-back in Prague after missing out on an appearance against Spain following a disrupted training week.
His involvement follows the Newcastle defender playing down concerns over his fitness and provides a positive development for Matthias Jaissle during the international break.
Lewis Hall helps England respond
Anthony Gordon and Harry Kane scored after the interval as England secured their first Nations League victory of the campaign.
Czechia had been reduced to ten men before half-time following Pavel Sulc’s dismissal.
Sky Sports’ match report highlighted Hall’s support for Gordon on England’s left, with the former Newcastle teammates combining in the visitors’ attacking play.
Hall also had an opportunity to get on the scoresheet. Reuters reported that he dragged a shot wide from Gordon’s cutback after England had taken the lead.
Newcastle encouraged as international schedule continues
For Newcastle, Hall’s return to competitive action is the most useful development after the uncertainty earlier in the camp.
It follows his return to England training and gives him an opportunity to build momentum before club football resumes.
England next visit Croatia on Saturday, 3 October, before hosting Czechia at Wembley on Tuesday, 6 October.
Hall therefore still has two international fixtures ahead of Newcastle’s Premier League trip to Coventry City on 12 October.
