The change adds another element to Newcastle’s first outing in the competition this season.

Newcastle Women prepare for Aston Villa test

Tanya Oxtoby’s side travel to Keys Park on Wednesday, 30 September, with Newcastle confirming a 7.30pm BST kick-off.

They arrive with momentum after beating Leicester City 4-0 to maintain their perfect WSL2 start.

Charlotte Wardlaw opened the scoring, Martha Thomas added two goals and Aoife Mannion completed the victory. Newcastle have won their first four league matches, scoring 11 times and conceding once.

The trip to top-flight opposition now offers a different measure of their progress.

Oxtoby faces changed opposition

For Newcastle, the immediate question is whether Villa’s change of leadership brings changes to their selection or approach.

Oxtoby must also weigh continuity against the demands of a quick turnaround following Sunday’s win. Newcastle’s strong league start gives her a positive platform, but Wednesday opens a separate competition.
