Newcastle Women predicted XI vs Aston Villa as Oxtoby rotates

Tanya Oxtoby has a major selection decision to make when Newcastle United Women travel to Aston Villa in the Subway Players Cup.

Newcastle are coming off Sunday’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Leicester City, but Wednesday represents their second of three games in eight days.

Oxtoby has already hinted that rotation is coming.

Speaking before the Leicester game, the Newcastle boss said: “There are plenty of opportunities for minutes, and we’ve got a squad built for that.”

Newcastle Women predicted XI vs Aston Villa

Predicted XI: Rendell; Németh, Evans, Purfield; Gale, Joel, Nobbs, Gregory; Kiernan, Sevenius, McGovern.

Kayla Rendell could replace Anna Tamminen in goal, while Gemma Evans and Hanna Németh are candidates to enter the defence.

Jordan Nobbs should also be pushing for her first start after returning from injury. She came off the bench against Leicester and immediately assisted Martha Thomas’ opening goal.

Jessie Gale made her comeback late in Sunday’s victory after returning to first-team training.

Leanne Kiernan and Oona Sevenius could also benefit if Oxtoby rests Thomas and Beth Lumsden following their heavy recent workloads.

The Aston Villa fixture gives Newcastle an opportunity to test their squad depth against WSL opposition.
