Anthony Elanga has handed Newcastle United a significant injury boost after undergoing a second MRI scan on his hamstring problem.
The winger has missed Newcastle’s recent matches after suffering the injury in training, with initial reports raising fears of a lengthy absence.
Fresh information now suggests the situation is more encouraging.
Newcastle receive positive Elanga MRI update
According to Coming Home Newcastle, Elanga’s latest MRI has produced positive signs over his recovery.
There is still no confirmed return date, but Newcastle are reportedly hopeful that he could become available after the three-week international break.
That would represent a significant improvement on earlier fears that Elanga could be sidelined for six to eight weeks.
Our Newcastle injury tracker should now be updated to reflect that more optimistic outlook.
Elanga stays with Newcastle during international break
Elanga will not join Sweden for their upcoming Nations League fixtures.
Instead, Newcastle will oversee his rehabilitation at the club during the break.
Matthias Jaissle previously described Elanga as a key part of his squad after the winger’s strong start to the season.
The injury forced Newcastle to look elsewhere on the right, with Jacob Murphy handed greater responsibility during Elanga’s absence.
Newcastle return to Premier League action against Coventry City on 12 October.
That fixture is now a possible target for Elanga, although the club have not formally confirmed that he will be fit in time.
