‘£15m offer’ – Deadline day Newcastle United transfer decision

It looks like Newcastle United are going to have a busy deadline day. They are expected to announce the arrival of Matias Fernandez-Pardo from Lille after agreeing to a £51 million deal with the French club.

Also, Nick Woltemade has landed in Turin to complete a season-long loan move to Juventus. There is no option or obligation to buy included in the deal. But it is a great chance for him to rebuild his career.

Would this be the end of Newcastle United‘s business on deadline day, one arrival and an exit? Or could there be more to come beyond that?

Well, it does seem that another exit could be on the cards. But Newcastle United do not seem convinced about it, largely because Matthias Jaissle seems against the idea.

Newcastle United reject deadline day offer from Nottingham Forest

According to Craig Hope, Newcastle United have rejected a second offer of £15 million for Jacob Murphy from Nottingham Forest.

Of course, that will baffle many. Murphy has been widely expected to leave for most of this summer. He is 31 years of age and in the final year of his contract at the club.

But Jaissle has very quickly come to appreciate the value of Murphy in a young dressing room. Senior professionals are needed and he is a big influence.

Naturally, the Newcastle United management have to think about what Jaissle wants, who has already shown that he is capable of getting a tune out of this weakened squad.

They drew against Liverpool in their opening Premier League fixture. That was followed up by a League Cup win against West Brom and a 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in their own backyard. So, letting Murphy go, against the manager’s wishes, would not be an ideal situation.

Could Murphy still leave?

Perhaps an exit could still happen. But in that scenario, Newcastle United might still need to bring in a replacement for Murphy, which won’t be easy with the deadline around the corner.

So, expect Murphy to continue in a Newcastle United shirt for at least the next season. And actually, it is great to see that the management have put more weight on Jaissle’s wishes than the balance sheet.

It is the kind of decision that should be applauded rather than questioned. A clear sign that the Magpies are ready to back Jaissle moving forward.
