Newcastle United interested in Brazilian winger with €80m release clause

Newcastle United need to strengthen in several areas across the pitch. One of them is on the flanks. The Magpies have already seen Anthony Gordon leave for Barcelona this summer. That has weakened their options on the wings.

It looks like the Magpies are monitoring a Brazilian winger at the moment. But interestingly, he plays most of his football on the right flank.

There is also a staggering €80 million release clause in his contract. Fortunately, the expectation is that his club would be open to negotiating a lower transfer fee. It is hard to imagine that the Magpies would be capable of pulling off a signing otherwise.

Of course, the links to an exciting Brazilian winger will immediately raise the hopes of the fans. Signing him would not be straightforward though, with plenty of other top clubs interested in him as well.

Newcastle United interested in signing highly-rated Brazilian winger

According to a report from Asromalive.it, William Gomes is wanted by Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle. Also, AS Roma and Juventus have made enquiries about signing the player.

The report goes on to state that he has an €80 million release clause, as previously mentioned. But it also claims that FC Porto would not sit down at the negotiating table for less than €45 million.

So, there is a chance that a deal could be done at nearly half of that release clause. And to be honest, that is a realistic transfer that Newcastle United could make this summer.

The level of interest is proof of how highly the 20-year-old Brazilian winger is regarded. Now, it remains to be seen if the Magpies will make their move or not.

Would William Gomes be a good signing?

Gomes has already established himself as one of the most exciting wingers in the Portuguese top flight. He scored 13 goals for Porto across all competitions last season.

That kind of form has earned the 20-year-old Brazilian youth international the transfer interest of clubs like Newcastle, Man Utd, Arsenal, Juventus and AS Roma. Where will he end up next?

It is very possible that he might end up staying on at Porto as well. There have been plenty of highly-regarded players from the Portuguese leagues whose names have been constantly in the transfer headlines in recent times. But moves have not happened.

Some names that come to mind immediately are Ousmane Diomande, Tomas Araujo, Diogo Costa, Antonio Silva and Maxi Araujo. Could William Gomes’ name end up on that list soon?
