Newcastle United make contact to sign €50m World Cup striker

If you have been keeping up with Newcastle United, you will know that they need to add to their ranks up top this summer. The club saw Alexander Isak leave for Liverpool last year. And they were not able to replace him adequately.

The Magpies did bring in Nick Woltemade. Unfortunately, after a bright start to life at St James’ Park, he lost his form. By the end of the campaign, he was often being played out of position rather then up top.

Yoane Wissa is another forward Newcastle United signed in a £50 million-plus transfer move. But unfortunately, he was not much of a success either, scoring just three goals all season.

Anthony Gordon played a lot of football up top. But he has left for Barcelona. So, all of that combined, the Magpies are not in a great spot when it comes to their forward department. And it looks like a World Cup standout is now on their radar.

Newcastle United want World Cup striker

Newcastle United have now set their eyes on a former Arsenal player. In fact, it looks like the club are already laying the foundation for what could turn out to be a transfer later on this summer.

According to Jeunes Footeux, Newcastle United have added Falorin Balogun to their shortlist this summer. The Magpies have made inquiries with AS Monaco already.

A move would not be straightforward though. Firstly, the report states that AS Monaco would expect a minimum €50 million before even beginning serious negotiations for the striker. Balogun is under contract until 2028.

So, Newcastle United might need to part ways with either Woltemade or Wissa first before they can consider signing Balogun. The issue is that other clubs like Aston Villa are also interested. So, if the Magpies do not move quickly, they might not get the chance at all.

Would Falorin Balogun be a success at Newcastle United?

Balogun ticks a lot of boxes. Of course, a lot of people will point towards his success at the ongoing World Cup. But this is not just about him finding form at the tournament.

Balogun scored 19 goals and provided five assists across all competitions for AS Monaco last season. Five of those goals came in the Champions League. That included a brace against PSG.

Also, Balogun has the advantage of knowing English football well. He was a standout at the youth levels for Arsenal. And one could argue he did not get a proper chance at the senior level.

A move to Newcastle United makes perfect sense for Balogun at this point in his career and feels like the natural next step. It remains to be seen if the Magpies can pull it off or not.
