  • Elliot Anderson will not rejoin Newcastle United this summer
  • Anderson does not believe his boyhood club can offer what he needs
  • England international taking ‘once bitten, twice shy’ approach

Read Newcastle understands that Elliot Anderson will not rejoin Newcastle United this summer despite speculation around a possible fairytale return to his boyhood club.

Anderson is set to be the subject of a big transfer saga when the transfer window opens, with multiple clubs like Manchester United and Manchester City also interested in his services.

Newcastle are interested in bringing Anderson back, especially if Sandro Tonali departs, with a move away from Tyneside looking increasingly plausible for the Italian.

Anderson Makes Newcastle decision

According to sources, Anderson is taking a ‘once bitten, twice shy’ approach to any possible reunion with his boyhood club. This is largely due to the lack of playtime he received whilst breaking through at St James’s Park.

The Magpies sold their academy graduate to Forest for £35m, receiving Vlachodimos for £25m in aid of the looming PSR deadline.

Anderson has since gone from strength to strength and is now touted with a transfer upward of £100m. The England international is favouring a move to one of the elite clubs interested.

A move back to Tyneside has emerged as a possibility, but sources close to the player have told Read Newcastle that there is almost no chance of that materialising.

The England international made 55 appearances during his time with his boyhood club. A reunion is not on the cards and Manchester seems to be his next destination.

Newcastle can’t offer what Anderson needs

Another factor in Anderson choosing not to come back to Tyneside is the Magpies being unable to offer him what he needs to continue the progression in his career.

Whilst the midfielder didn’t rule out a reunion initially, the club’s lack of Champions League football next season has reduced the appeal and plausibility of Anderson’s return.

Newcastle also can’t offer the 23-year-old a financial package to rival the other sides interested. The Magpies have a strict wage structure at this stage and are reluctant to break it for any player.

In turn, Anderson would likely have to pass up the opportunity to play in elite European football and become one of the Premier League’s highest-paid players if he were to pull on the black and white again.
