Newcastle United injury news: Gordon, Livramento and Schar latest updates and return dates

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe provided injury updates in a press conference on Friday ahead of facing Arsenal in Premier League action.

The Magpies travel to a Gunners side struggling under the weight of their title chase on Saturday evening. Mikel Arteta’s side sustained a crushing defeat to Manchester City last weekend.

Howe’s side are in desperate need of a result themselves, looking to end a four-match run of defeats. Here’s your Newcastle United injury update.

Anthony Gordon

Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon was a surprise absentee against AFC Bournemouth last weekend. Eddie Howe confirmed that the England international had picked up a hip injury prior to that match, which did coincide with rife transfer rumours.

In his press conference, Howe said: “Anthony won’t make the game. He hasn’t trained this week. Not a serious injury, but not in time for this game. Hopefully the next one.”

Potential return date – Newcastle United v Brighton, May 2

Tino Livramento

Livramento limped off in the 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth. The full-back has come under fire in recent weeks but would be a huge miss to Howe’s side.

The defender was confirmed to have undergone scans, which showed that the injury would require a period of rehabilitation. On Friday, Howe said: “Tino went for a scan initially, we don’t think it’s a bad injury, we’ll wait and see if he’ll play again this season. He’ll have another scan this weekend to determine his time out.

“Tino is very level-headed, very stable mentally. He’s had a frustrating season, he was outstanding last season, fit and available and really contributed. This year has been different but that’s the life of a footballer.

“He’s never been able to get that run of games to really find his best form. He’s an outstanding player, we just hope he has a better run around the corner.”

Potential return date – Unknown.

Fabian Schar

Schar hasn’t featured in the league since early January, last playing in the 4-3 victory over Leeds United. The 34-year-old had successful surgery on a broken foot at the time and was set to be out for three months.

Speaking earlier this month, Howe provided an update and confirmed that the centre-back had endured a setback. He said: “Fabian Schär suffered an infection in his foot so he is in hospital having a minor surgery on that so he will be out for about a month.”

Potential return date – Nottingham Forest v Newcastle United, May 10

Emil Krafth

It’s been a torrid season for Emil Krafth, who has managed just three appearances this term. The defender picked up a knee injury on international duty early in the season and rehab has proven tricky.

Speaking in February, Howe said: “Emil has had an op on his knee, so in all likelihood, it looks like his season is over, which is a blow for us.

“He first suffered the problem on international duty, and we hoped he could come back and be OK. It was clear in training he wasn’t going to get to the level needed, and there needed to be a surgical intervention.”

Potential return date – Unknown.
