Anthony Gordon Transfer: Where a £75m deal would rank in Newcastle United biggest sales

  • Bayern Munich show strong interest in Anthony Gordon
  • Newcastle United want around £75 million
  • One of the club’s most expensive sales

Recent news surrounding Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon suggests that he might be on his way out of St James’ Park this summer, with interest intensifying from German giants Bayern Munich and several Premier League sides.

It was reported by The Times that if the Magpies were to sell the English forward, they would want a fee of £75 million to replace him with quality players.

Gordon has provided eight goal contributions in 26 Premier League appearances this season but, similar to his fellow attacking teammates, has been criticised for his lack of consistent impetus this term.

The touted £75 million asking price would be a large fee for the Black and Whites, so here is a look at the Top five sales at the club if the 25-year-old is to leave this summer.

5th – Yankuba Minteh – £30 million to Brighton

The Gambian international enjoyed a solid campaign at Dutch side Feyenoord before returning to the North East in the summer of 2024.

There was a real possibility he would be a squad option for Eddie Howe, or perhaps even a starter, ahead of Jacob Murphy in the pecking order.

However, the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules made that summer extremely difficult for the club, so they had to sell players to avoid any sanctions.

With Minteh counting as an academy player, it allowed the issues to be cleared more effectively, making a move to Brighton quick and easy for the Seagulls.

In his two years on the south coast, he has registered 16 goal contributions in the league.

4th – Andy Carroll – £35 million to Liverpool

Andy Carroll remained the record sale for many years at St James’ Park, but he never hit the heights he showcased on Tyneside.

In the Black and Whites’ Championship season, he scored 17 times, and after just being promoted, he scored 11 goals in 19 Premier League games.

Chelsea had just bought Fernando Torres from Liverpool for £50 million, making the Reds act quickly on a deadline day deal for the Geordie.

The big striker was poor at Anfield and went on to feature for West Ham before returning to Tyneside on a free in 2019. He is currently at non-league side Dagenham & Redbridge, where he is their caretaker manager.

3rd – Elliot Anderson – £35 million to Nottingham Forest

The toughest one to take for many in the Toon Army, as they never really got to see what Anderson would be like in a Black and White shirt.

Similar to Minteh, this deal was made due to PSR rules, which made the club sell players to avoid any trouble. Many supporters hope he can return to St James’ Park this summer despite interest from Premier League teams.

Since moving to Forest, he has missed just one league game and is also in the Europa League semi-final, with a clash against Aston Villa in a few weeks.

2nd – Anthony Gordon – £75 million to ?

The writing looks like it’s on the wall for the English winger at this stage, and it’s a matter of who and when rather than if.

Gordon has been instrumental to their success in recent years, scoring two goals in their Carabao Cup semi-final against Arsenal, which helped them lift the trophy at Wembley several weeks later.

He was out of the squad against Bournemouth, and there are questions being asked about whether he will ever wear a Newcastle shirt again.

He has a high price tag, but the teams that are interested can certainly afford the fee.

1st – Alexander Isak – £125 million to Liverpool

A transfer that didn’t just impact Tyneside but sent shockwaves around Europe, as a transfer battle between the two clubs took over the summer transfer window.

Alexander Isak was incredible for the St James’ Park outfit where, in his last season, he scored 23 league goals.

After a dragged-out summer window, the deal was finalised on deadline day, though it has not gone as planned for Isak, who has been out for many months due to injuries and has scored just twice in the league.

The sale of a 26-year-old still has effects today, and it feels his decision has altered the minds of many key players at the club, who are now set to leave this sumemr – one of them being Gordon.

In other news, Newcastle United ‘in talks’ with UEFA as summer transfer blow looms.
